Laina’s biological parents are the late Tanya Curley and Johnny Pootoogook. She was adopted by David Simiga and Saila Geetah. Laina has 4 sisters and 4 brothers. Laina comes from an artistic family on the Pootoogook side. She is a self-taught artist and started drawing at the age of 18. She likes to draw anything or everything she likes. Laina will continue to pursue her art as long as she can. Dorset Fine Arts was established in Toronto in 1978 as the wholesale marketing division of the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative. The Co-operative is in Kinngait (Cape Dorset), Nunavut and is unique among the Arctic Co-operatives for its focus on the arts and artists of the community. Dorset Fine Arts was established to develop and serve the market for Inuit fine art produced by the artist members of the Co-operative. Show more
