Prunus americana x salicina 'Toka' Our hardiest Asian plum, it is so sweet, spicy, and fragrant, it is commonly called the Candy or Bubblegum plum! An Asian x American plum hybrid with small-to-medium size red fruit with yellow flesh that ripens in August. Toka was bred by Hansen in South Dakota in 1911 and more than a century later northern growers still prize it. The vigorous, upright, self-fertile tree is covered with white blossoms in early spring, bushels of fruit in the summer, and beautiful red fall foliage. It is an excellent pollinizer for other Asian plums and complex crosses.
