Her quilt block collection represents an early comprehensive index of quilt patterns. Two blocks Hall designed herself are a Leavenworth and Tonganoxie Nine-Patch, named in honor Hall’s hometown and a neighboring one. I modified Hall’s designs to produce this pattern, named Tonganoxie Split in honor of a local weather legend that the hills around Tonganoxie tend to divert approaching storm systems.
