Green Shadow 8000–10000 grit Dense and hard slate for finishing razors, knives, gouges, wood chisels, and other tools. Black Shadow 12000–15000 grit Very dense and hard finishing stone for the finest edge refinement and high-level final honing. Directions for use Use with slurry, water, glycerin, or oil Both hones can be used with slurry produced with a piece of the same stone. The slurry works best with a small amount of water on the stone. Too much water may cause slipping and a suction effect because of the hard stone surface. A slurry-honed edge will have a hazy finish, while slurry gives faster and more powerful sharpening. A water-based finish gives a shinier polish. Glycerin or oil can provide a more homogeneous finish. Switching from oil to water is possible if the stone is cleaned well.
