Jobe Valves Topaz Differential Float Valve: Protect Your Pump, Minimize Cycling If your tank is filled by a pressure-controlled water pump, the Topaz Differential Float Valve is engineered specifically for that job. Instead of forcing your pump through rapid, wear-inducing start-stop cycles, this valve creates a wide, adjustable gap between fill and shut-off levels—letting your pump run efficiently in longer, less frequent cycles. Why a Differential Valve Matters Standard float valves can cause a pressure-controlled pump to cycle rapidly as the water level hovers near shut-off—a major source of premature pump failure. The Topaz Differential solves this with a level difference adjustable from 50mm up to 2.5 meters, minimizing starting and stopping of the pumping system. The Detach Long Tail (DLT) Advantage This model comes with the Detach Long Tail (DLT)—a unique, extended thread that includes a seal washer and backing nut, so no other fittings are required. The threads extend through the tank, with the seal washer inside and the backing nut outside; once tightened, the remaining exposed threads accept your water supply line, holding the valve securely in place. How It Works The valve mounts at the top of the tank, fitting easily through a thin-walled tank or screwing into a threaded tank inlet. As the tank empties, the weighted float travels down the cord until it hits the bottom stop—the valve then opens immediately for full flow. The valve runs continuously while the weighted float rises, until it hits the upper float stop, lifting the arm and shutting the valve down. Set your pump's pressure switch to cut off at a pressure at least one bar above its running pressure while the tank fills. Key Features: High Flow: Fast, efficient tank filling. Adjustable Differential: Easily set water level differentials from 50mm to 2.5m. Detach™ Valve Seal Access System (Patented): Quick, tool-free access to the valve seal for servicing. Minimizes Pump Cycling: Reduces wear and extends pump life. Universal Fit: Works with all makes and models of tanks. Common Applications: water storage tanks, water cisterns, and irrigation applications. Long Tail vs. Short Tail The key difference is the amount of thread available to attach to your plumbing—short tail valves do not include a backing nut and seal washer. See our Detach Short Tail and Detach Long Tail pages for details. Selecting the Right Inlet Size Match your valve's inlet size to your supply plumbing—your flow rate will always be limited by the smallest pipe in the system. If you upgrade your plumbing later, a different Detach tail can adapt your existing valve instead of requiring a full replacement.
