Prepare to embark on an audacious sonic journey with Tortoise's latest offering, Touch, where musical boundaries dissolve into a realm of abstracted muscularity and innovative soundscapes. This groundbreaking album, a testament to their collaborative spirit, arrives on vinyl as a sophisticated exploration of their collective genius, rekindling the essence of a band that has long been at the forefront of the rock avant-garde since their late '90s inception. Touch finds Tortoise expanding on their signature auditory palette while embracing grand gestures and stylistic diversity. Their legendary melding of dusky jazz ambiance is still present, evoking echoes of seminal albums like Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT. However, it's the album’s bold excursions into aerodynamically re-engineered Krautrock and hand-cranked techno rave-ups that truly set this collection apart. Standout tracks invite listeners to engage with the mesmerizing intricacies of their sound, a delightful puzzle to savor rather than decipher.Reflecting their current geographic dispersion-with members in Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago-Touch captures the essence of a band fiercely dedicated to reconnecting and rejuvenating their sound. This 2025 release promises to be Tortoise's most diverse endeavor yet, making it an essential addition to any discerning audiophile's collection. Immerse yourself in the sound of a band that continues to redefine what experimentation in rock can mean.
