This is the one, Montevertine's flagship, which is only produced in outstanding vintages, and a definitive expression of Sangiovese worldwide. Sourced from organically farmed vines planted as early as 1968, this was aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 18 months before being racked into smaller French oak barrels for an additional 6 months. Situated in the heart of the Chianti district, Montevertine is located about halfway between Florence and Siena. The estate, who history stretches back to the 11th Century, had fallen into abandon and disrepair until 1967 when Sergio Manetti acquired it. He began planting vineyards, which over the next few decades grew in acclaim, crescendo-ing with Le Pergole Torte label—widely considered the planet's greatest Sangiovese wine. While labeled a Toscana Rosso (and oftentimes mistaken for for Super Tuscans), Montevertine's wines actually adhere strictly to Chianti Classico law. 13.5% ABV
