The writing is confined to towers having fans, and is addressed to persons having some knowledge of towers. Underlying matters are Safety, and maintenance Economics. The immediate objective is to throw light on the vibration problem, caused by the presence of fans and running gear. The vibration problem is reviewed under the heading of balancing; Standards; Measuring; Monitoring; & Nature of Vibrations. The treatment is on the level of a simplified review and analysis that falls short of a specialist discussion in the realm of vibrations. Tentative standardsare offered and conclusions are given. The Velocity system is advocated for tower monitoring; although no firm recommendations are Given in any area. The writing disclaims any wishto influence policy, but does offer the sort of tactical knowledge upon which policy might be successfully built.
