When Sharaku first released this work, it was unique and left a strong impression, but it was not well received. He produced over 145 works between May 1794 (Kansei 6) and January 1795 (Kansei 7). However, he suddenly disappeared after that, making him known as a mysterious ukiyo-e artist.
