Emotions run high on Ouri's new single, "Trance Parent," her first since the release of We Share Our Blood, her Ghostly International debut EP. Here the Montreal-based electronic producer pays particular attention to the voice, deployed as both harmonic signal and source of texture and tension. She fuses a neural net of drum sounds and deep bass into a platform of progression for the harmonies to run on, to encode, to decode, arpeggiate and ultimately to break.Ouri adds, "My first idea was to represent a sort of hypnotic artificial intelligence, the shaping of a new form of consciousness. I was inspired by everlasting rave nostalgy and classical counterpoint choirs, allowing the voices to join in very close harmonies. I’ve pushed a little further the limits I’ve set to myself concerning harmony and dissonance. Special credit to my friend Priori for his precise and sensitive ear on the mix."
