This spring, a family of Barred Owls took up residence just a few minute walk from my doorstep, in one of the most beautiful tree cavities I have ever seen. It was a very special e xperience to get to see them grow up! This photo was captured when the owlets were about 4-5 weeks old, just minutes before they fledged from the nest. Barred Owls fledge before they can fly, and build up their flight muscles in the subsequent weeks as they climb and explore the surrounding trees. Show more
