Western Skies Motel, the instrumental solo project ofDanish René Gonzalez Schelbeck, has announced details ofthe release of Trails, his fourth album and first for ThePoint Of Departure Recording Company.Released on Friday 7th March 2025, the self-producedalbum was primarily recorded with Jakob Høyer, whoshares a studio in Copenhagen with Trentemøller. Jakobalso engineered and mixed the record and played drumson a couple of tracks.A multi-instrumentalist, René played most of theinstruments on Trails - electric and acoustic guitars, somesynthwork and piano here and there, and the tapemanipulations - with Leaf recording artist / composer JuliaKent (who has also played with Anohni and the Johnsons,Swans) providing cello, Nils Gröndahl (Under Byen) violindrones and Jens Hein bass.Deeply meditative, the album’s warm, intricate texturesare built around haunting guitar lines, tape loops andvarious drones.
