Tronex® Hard Wire Cutters are designed specifically for cutting very fine hard wire typically used in medical device manufacturing. These specialty cutters are often used under a m icroscope and cut very fine hard wire including nitinol, stainless steel, elgiloy and tungsten. These cutters are ideal for cutting stents, catheters and braided mesh used in medical device manufacturing. There are two classes of Tronex® Hard Wire Cutters: Class W Cutters and Class T Cutters. The cutting edges are hardened by a special heat-treating process to a hardness exceeding 67 on the Rockwell C scale. The hardness of the edges extends to a significant case depth. The razor-sharp edges cut hard wire in stainless steel, nickel, Nitinol (nickel and titanium), maximum diameter for tungsten wire is 0.025mm (0.001"). Precision cutting of very fine wire is achieved through an especially fine joint design. The joint incorporates a hardened screw/nut combination, matched bearing rings and a Delrin® washer. Ends are cut flush, smooth and free of burrs. Tronex® Cutters feature stainless steel springs, cushion grips and an anti-dulling protection device. Diamond grinding then forms the head shape and sharpens the cutting edges. This tool design, with its dual material construction, combines the high yield strength of carbon steel with the intense localized hardness of tungsten carbide. Cutting edges of Class T Cutters have a hardness of 79 to 81 HRC. Class T Cutters can cut thicker hard wire than Class W Cutters. Handles and jaws of Class T Cutters are tougher than those of Class W.
