The USN N-1 is based on the commercial version manufactured and sold to civilians. Based on the vintage N-1 deck jacket, this item is made in Takanoguchi, Japan, a region famous for its boa and fur. The outer shell is made of high-density jungle cloth (bedford cord) with excellent wind and water repellency, and alpaca mohair wool. Additionally the outer fabric, which features a distinctive ridged surface, is made excellent at keeping out the cold and retaining heat by woven the weft threads to the maximum density. The distinctive leather trim at the pocket openings is a design that can also be seen on car coats and lunch coats from the 1930s and gives the N-1 Mfg jacket a distinctive look vs other N-1 jackets in the market. The underarm area on the back is made of poplin fabric to reduce thickness and has a wider cut than usual. The Interior lining of the N-1 is a 50% Alpaca and 50% wool blended lining that is soft, fuzzy and has excellent heat retention even on the coldest of days. By washing the product after production, creasing occurs and the stiffness of the fabric is eliminated.
