A strong collection of individual solos for four timpani that, when performed together, will provide many aspects of timpani performance as well as a variety of musical moods. The work begins with a bold statement in the first movement, "Fanfare," continues with a light-hearted dance in 9/8 in "Scherzo" and a slow, peaceful interlude in "Chorale," and concludes with an aggressive display of technique in the final movement, "Allegro." There are no tuning changes within the movements themselves, but adjustments are required to the middle two drums in between each movement.
