To test your material: Start with the BLACK handle file (65 HRC) and run it over the material. If it marks, the material is less than 65 HRC. Try the BLUE handle file (60 HRC). If it doesn't mark the material, the material is harder than 60 HRC but less than 65 HRC. If the BLUE file (60 HRC) marks the material, proceed with the GREEN file (55 HRC), then the LIGHT-GREEN file (50 HRC), and continue until the file does not mark the material.
