From the Artist: My mother in law, Mary Ann, was an adventurer, She purchased a ninety-nine year lease on a little beach cottage located close to the water in Cholla Bay. The bay is part of narrow link of landthat joins the Baja peninsula to the Mexican main land. We began making the trek from Mesa to herbeach cabin in the mid- seventies. The closest town, Puerto Penasco or "Rocky Point," had beenestablished on a rocky point overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The fishing was good in the bay and beforethe town existed, fishermen would make camps in the area. The town had sprung from those fishingcamps in the early twenties. It is said that Al Capone had used the laid-back surroundings to recreateand lay low.
