Recommended Applications Fire lanes & emergency vehicle access roads Construction entrance stabilization Residential & commercial driveways Parking lots & overflow parking Erosion control & stormwater management Truck & equipment yards Equestrian parks & pathways How to Build a Grass Driveway with Tufftrack Pavers Base Preparation NDS recommends a compacted AASHTO #57 stone base sized to the traffic: Traffic Minimum #57 stone base Maximum grade Foot traffic only No base required 3% Golf carts and light loads 4 in. Not specified Cars and pickup trucks 6 in. 10% Fire trucks and heavy loads 8 in. 6% A non-woven geotextile under the base is optional. Poorly draining soil may need a perforated underdrain. Leave at least 1 in. of clearance at concrete edges. Filling & Seeding Fill the cells with well-draining sandy loam topsoil. Seed with a fast-growing, drought-tolerant mix such as rye and fescue, or lay sod on top. Water generously and keep vehicles off for 4 to 6 weeks while the grass establishes. Maintenance Mow and water like a normal lawn. Check the surface now and then and replace any damaged section. NDS notes grass surfaces are for emergency and occasional traffic; daily driving in the same tracks will wear the grass. Full walkthrough: Grass Driveway Pavers: Cost, Base Prep & Installation Guide.
