There’s no question that the Woolly Bugger is one of the most storied and effective flies an angler can possess. It’s why rows upon rows of fly boxes are devoted to it. It’s hard t o imagine a way to make this pattern better, but the tungsten jig bugger manages to do just that! A stripping retrieve is usually the way to fish buggers, but with the jig hook it’s possible to incorporate new strategies into your arsenal! This fly works great in slow, deep water when we want our flies to be on the bottom and spend the most amount of time possible in the fish zone. After letting the jig bugger sink, give it the usual strip or two followed by a raise of the rod tip. This will give it extra upward motion to go along with the swimming pattern that imitates baitfish or crayfish. Drift this mini streamer under an indicator or strip slowly as you would with other streamers. Tungsten beads are highly sought after for nymphing enthusiasts for it's heavier weight and ability to drive nymphs down to the bottom quickly.
