Nature has been a quiet underlying theme in Gail Hefti’s work since the beginning, specifically sea forms with their tactile qualities. Materials and techniques that Hefti uses ten d to be tradition and she hand fabricates in what she hopes to be a unique final product. Hefti loves texture and the processes of texturing metal using etching, chasing and roller printing. Ideas can develop using a stone but her aim is to incorporate them as a working part of the entire piece. Her aesthetic choices are intuitive rather than premeditated. Some pieces more than not, seem to develop spontaneously on their own; Gail Hefti prefers results that are not excessively ‘designed’.
