A horse’s height was measured through the span of male hands, a system that implicitly carried a male-centered perspective. This method of measurement was a form of quantification and classification shaped by masculine power structures.Having never seen a real horse in person, my own impression of its scale and image was instead formed by countless flickering and indistinct illusions.Twinkle attempts to subvert this inherited logic of measurement by weaving together hands considered “non-normative” with symbols of childhood longing. Air itself becomes the medium that sustains the horse’s form: a fluid, expansive self-representation viewed through a queer looking glass.
