According to George Lucas, the divide and balance between the two is a matter of selflessness versus selfishness. One projects outward for the well-being of others, giving of itself; the other, even in its intake of things we would call good, is motivated by self. Here we’ve pictured the Dark Side as a black hole, greedily drawing into itself a star of hope and light. The tree crawling down the side of the frame is inverted so that it’s the roots instead of the branches out in the open. They not only possessively entrap that which the black hole absorbs, but grow from the dark…are in fact rooted in it. It is from this black hole, this snare of selfishness, that the choices and actions of the Dark spring.
