The mysterious "Sub-Antarctic" Killer Whale, also called the "Type D" Orca, is a strange type of Orca that may represent a unique isolated population of these large cetaceans, or an all new species altogether. Recent studies indicate the unique features of this type of Orca may be due to a lack of genetic diversity. Scientific Name: Orcinus Orca currently, but may be a new species Characteristics: Type D Orcas are known for their large, bulbous heads and small white "eyespots" behind their eyes, which sets them apart from the more familiar types of Orca.
