While most species are large, vigorous plants, Typha minima is the smallest member of the group and is therefore ideally suited to the average garden pond. It has slender, grass-like green stems topped in summer with charming little round brown 'pokers'. Please note that the plants often press against the sides of their pots because of the way the roots grow; if the pot is difficult to remove, simply snip it off with scissors. If you have a very small pond and even this species feels too substantial, you might like to consider the Swordleaf Rush, which gives a similar effect on a smaller scale.
