UDO DMNO Furthering UDO's pursuit of synthesizers that are Super in sleek sound and style, DMNO is a malleable eight-voice synthesizer with a flexible voicing structure underneath a streamlined control interface. DMNO is effectively two synthesizers in one, thanks to its dual four-voice architecture. Despite visual nods to the Oberheim SEM and the custom-engineered vacuum fluorescent display that oozes retro vibes, much of what lies inside DMNO is modern and cutting-edge technology for a synthesizer that will hold its own in 2025 and beyond. Extending beyond simple bi-timbral operation, DMNO's Play Modes dial switches between eight different options for using the two engines. Play one or both at once, split them across the keyboard, or explore different note allocation schemes in One-Two, Random, and Chaos modes. You can even rig up DMNO as a brutal complex oscillator in Series mode. Like the Super 6, Super 8, and Super Gemini before it, DMNO's oscillators are based on FPGA technology. Digital, yes, but running at such a high sample rate that any meaningful concerns for aliasing or inaccuracies in extreme modulation are effectively eliminated. These oscillators are also what facilitate the UDO concept of Super voices: fully stereo signal paths from oscillator to output that support various varieties of deviation between the left and right voices, yielding rich binaural effects. To complement the FPGA oscillators, DMNO's signal path shifts into the analog domain, highlighted by a new UDO filter topology developed for this new instrument. The Dynamic Multi-Core Stereo filters, like the synthesis engines that contain them, have their own level of configurable routing: stereo, parallel, and series, with a number of different filter responses available for incredible sonic variety. Speaking of variety, the oscillators, filter, and output VCA are flexibly shaped by LFOs and envelope generators—of which, one LFO and two envelopes are available right on the panel, with one more of each available through the VFD interface. DMNO's sound palette is extended with a digital effects section, which includes some new offerings from UDO. A flexible and syncable delay is joined by a luscious reverb, plus chorus, EQ, and distortion for thickening up and sculpting things further. You can also easily incorporate external gear thanks to stereo audio I/O (including over USB), as well as two assignable 3.5mm outputs to bring your modular rig into the fold.
