The Navy's Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) were elite special operations units established during World War II to conduct reconnaissance, demolitions, and amphibious assaults. Th ese highly trained frogmen specialized in clearing beach obstacles, gathering intelligence, and preparing the way for larger amphibious landings. Their expertise in underwater demolition laid the foundation for the creation of the modern Navy SEALs in 1962.
