The Busongora North Coffee Farmers' Cooperative is a farmer-owned, farmer-governed organisation made up of over 500 families in the Kasese district of western Uganda. Each farmer is registered and assigned a unique identification number — a system that allows every bag of coffee to be traced back to the specific farmland where it was grown. Two-thirds of the cooperative's members are women. Among them is Rawomesi Nzukwa, a single provider for her family, whose story represents what this cooperative means in practice: fair prices, sustainable farming, and a path toward genuine economic stability. The coffee is processed at wash stations within the Kajole, Kithoma, and Kaswa Parishes, before being dry-milled in the nearby town of Kasese and prepared for export. Every step is managed close to the source.
