The DIFFERENTIAL model kit is the mechanism without which you cannot turn a vehicle around. It demonstrates how the two drive wheels mounted on the same axle can rotate at a different rate and can thus cover a different distance. This mechanical toy is a miniature version of the main part of the transmission mechanism of a car. It improves its maneuverability and performance. Similar to other UGears construction kits for adults and children, this educational toy has an iconic design and it moves. EDUCATIONAL ENTERTAINMENT: The UGears STEM LAB helps educate kids while they're having fun. Our building toys unveil the basic concepts of science, technology, engineering and maths, and help children relate to things in the real world. The hands-on experience of putting things together is much more fun and made easier because each mechanism is fully explained. Try and assemble UGears science kits for children and adults either by yourself or in a pleasant company. Gain LIFE-LONG SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE: This new collection of 3D puzzles and construction toys is UNIQUE because it is all about mechanisms in common use like gears, differentials and transmissions as well as their application in real life. Our science kits prepare children to stay with it and persevere with their tasks, helping to increase their frustration tolerance. All you need is in the box, no glue or cutting required. GORGEOUS GIFT BOX: Featuring an elegant convenient cardboard packaging, UGears science kits make for an exclusive gift for both kids and adults. Our STEM toys will spark a desire for more knowledge and thus provide many hours of quality time. Our construction kits for adults and children also make splendid pieces of home décor. INTERACT WITH MECHANICAL MODELS: Increase your assembling experience with the new, mind-blowing UGears AUGMENTED REALITY App. Point your tablet or mobile phone at a fully assembled STEM-lab model and the app will show you various applications of the mechanism you've just built. Expand the boundaries of your knowledge, order UGears STEM Lab 3D puzzles NOW! Kit contains all required components and no glue is required Precision laser cut plywood. Only requires assembly. UGears Mechanical Models are self-propelled, mechanical wooden model assembly kits. Perfect for family projects, puzzle enthusiasts, and hands-on STEM learning 163 parts Assembly time: 2 hours Model size 175x135x105mm Educational 3D puzzle Differential by Ugears STEM Lab. Discover in AR Experiment: the model comes with a Pocket Model’s Study Guide with a creation story and mechanism design as well as engaging and interesting tasks. Immerse yourself in Augmented Reality (AR), find out how the Counter is used in a production line, and interact with it via the dedicated Ugears application. Learn how the DIFFERENTIAL works The Differential is a stylised educational model, an interactive study guide to the mechanism, only for learning its essentials and principles of working. The Differential was designed to ensure that the drive wheels sitting on the same axle rotate with a different rate and cover different distances at the same time. This mechanism allows the car to make turns without the wheels skidding, prevents wheel-slip, reduces tyre wear, and makes entering and going out of turns easier for the driver. Having assembled the Differential, you can unblock it pushing the lever in position 1 (Up) and set both wheels in motion by rotation of the drive gear or the wheel. The Control lever regulates the smooth locking of the left and right wheels independently by turning left or right respectively. In the “down” position of the lever, both wheels are linked in a rigid coupling and can either rotate together (propelled by the drive gear or a wheel) or lock simultaneously (by the lever of the wheel). When and who invented it The car differential was invented by French engineer Onesiphore Pecqueur in 1825. In the 1930s of the 20th century, German automotive engineer Ferdinand Porsche made significant improvements to the device. Usage Differentials are used mainly in cars as a part of the transmission mechanism. They improve maneuvrability and performance of a car. The mechanism of the Differential is composed of: The drive gear The locking lever The side gear The locking clutch The wheel The Differential is developed to serve as a learning tool rather than a puzzle. Just like the rest of Ugear’s collections, putting STEM-lab models together is fun and comprehensive: everything you need to build, learn, and discover comes in a box. There you will find: High-quality wooden boards with pre-cut details and other standard supplies. Assembly requires no glue or additional tools. The details come out of the boards with a slight push. Detailed step-by-step color instruction manual. Easy to follow – easy to learn. Examples and suggestions for your fun hands-on projects. QR-code to Pocket Model’s Study Guide (the Differential Essentials with a description of the mechanism, principle of working, main characteristics, definitions, and formulas).
