Not all black is the same black. This thread is dyed using the techniques of Kyoto Montsuki — the tradition behind Japan's most formal garment, the black montsuki kimono. Where sta ndard dyeing stops at black, Kyoto Montsuki goes further. A secondary process known as deep black processing is applied after the initial dye, then the thread is dried in sunlight to draw the colour to its fullest depth.
