Ultra-Clear® Attapulgite Clarification Media for Fuels & Oils
Overview Ultra-Clear® by Oil-Dri is a high-performance attapulgite clarification and purification media used in compatible jet fuel, petroleum, industrial oil and specialty-liquid treatment processes. Its activated granular attapulgite structure can adsorb selected polar compounds and process impurities while providing a durable physical form for industrial treatment and filtration systems. Multiple mesh grades allow processors to match the media to flow rate, contact method, pressure-drop limits, filtration equipment and required clarification performance. For broader application guidance, see our Attapulgite Clay for Jet Fuel Treatment & Clarification guide or our Attapulgite Clay for Industrial Filtration & Purification resource. Petroleum purification: Treatment of compatible petroleum-based liquids where activated attapulgite can support removal of selected polar impurities. Industrial oil clarification: Adsorptive treatment and filtration support for compatible process oils and specialty fluids. Wax & specialty-liquid purification: Clarification and purification where the contaminant profile is compatible with activated attapulgite. General process clarification: Granular treatment media for applications requiring controlled particle size, physical strength and reliable hydraulic behavior. Using Ultra-Clear for jet fuel? Particle size, treatment configuration, flow, contact time, pressure drop and downstream retention all affect how attapulgite performs in a jet-fuel system. See our jet fuel attapulgite treatment guide for a process-specific comparison of Ultra-Clear 8/16, 16/30, 30/60 and 60/90. Why choose Ultra-Clear®? Activated attapulgite media: Designed for compatible industrial purification and clarification processes. Polar-contaminant treatment: Manufacturer positioning includes selected polar compounds in compatible jet fuel and petroleum treatment applications. Durable granular form: Physical strength supports industrial handling and media retention in properly designed systems. Controlled particle sizing: Multiple mesh ranges allow the media to be matched to filtration and treatment equipment. Low bulk density: Provides relatively lightweight granular media for compatible treatment beds and process configurations. Multiple mesh grades: Coarse through fine options provide different balances of retention, contact area, flow and pressure-drop behavior. Manufacturer documentation: Oil-Dri technical data and lot-specific documentation are available for qualification and procurement review. Available mesh grades Ultra-Clear® is available in multiple particle-size ranges for different treatment configurations, filtration equipment and hydraulic requirements. Grade Relative particle size Typical starting fit Key considerations 8/16 mesh Coarse Retained-bed and coarse-media treatment configurations Bed retention, flow, contact time, vessel design and pressure drop 16/30 mesh Coarse to intermediate Retained-media and compatible granular treatment systems Screen retention, hydraulics, contaminant loading and contact 30/60 mesh Intermediate to fine Contact treatment and filtration using smaller granular media Contact area, filtration rate, downstream retention and cake behavior 60/90 mesh Fine Finer treatment and filtration systems with controlled media retention Fine-particle retention, pressure drop, filtration and handling Mesh size is not a performance ranking. Finer grades provide greater available contact area but can also increase pressure drop and downstream retention requirements. Grade selection should match both the purification objective and the physical treatment system. For a detailed particle-size selection matrix, see Ultra-Clear particle sizes for jet fuel treatment . How Ultra-Clear fits the treatment process Process factor Why it matters Contaminant profile Attapulgite should be qualified against the actual compound or fuel-quality issue being targeted. Particle size Mesh range influences retention, available contact area, flow and pressure drop. Contact method Retained-bed and contact-treatment systems impose different requirements on media size and downstream filtration. Flow rate Hydraulic loading affects residence time, pressure drop and interaction between the liquid and treatment media. Media loading Available treatment capacity and contaminant loading influence cycle life and replacement frequency. Finished-product requirement Performance should be evaluated against measurable process or fuel-quality requirements rather than visual clarification alone. Evaluating attapulgite outside jet fuel? Ultra-Clear for oil & petroleum purification Jet fuel is an important Ultra-Clear application, but attapulgite treatment also fits within a broader family of oil and petroleum purification processes. The appropriate media depends on the liquid, contaminant profile, treatment method, particle-size requirement and downstream filtration system. For a broader comparison of attapulgite, bleaching earth, selective adsorbents and filtration media, see Adsorbents for Oil Purification & Refining . Application scope: Ultra-Clear should not be assumed to remove every contaminant or solve every fuel- or oil-quality issue. Media suitability and treatment performance should be confirmed against the actual liquid, contaminant, equipment and finished-product requirement. Questions & answers What is Ultra-Clear® made from? Ultra-Clear® is manufactured from attapulgite-type clay processed into activated granular clarification and purification media. Is Ultra-Clear used for jet fuel treatment? Yes. Ultra-Clear has historical manufacturer positioning in jet-fuel clarification and petroleum purification. Suitability should be confirmed against the actual contaminant profile, treatment configuration and finished-fuel requirement. See our jet fuel attapulgite treatment guide for application-specific selection guidance. What contaminants can Ultra-Clear® remove? Ultra-Clear is positioned as an activated attapulgite treatment media for selected polar compounds and compatible clarification duties. Actual removal performance depends on contaminant chemistry, liquid composition, media grade, contact conditions and treatment configuration. What industries use Ultra-Clear®? Applications include jet-fuel treatment, petroleum and industrial-oil purification, wax and specialty-liquid processing, and other compatible clarification systems where activated attapulgite is appropriate. Which Ultra-Clear mesh size should I choose? The appropriate mesh depends on the treatment configuration, filtration equipment, required media retention, flow rate, allowable pressure drop, contaminant profile and contact requirements. Finer media is not automatically better. What is the difference between Ultra-Clear 8/16, 16/30, 30/60 and 60/90? The primary difference is particle-size range. Coarser grades are generally easier to retain in granular treatment systems, while finer grades provide greater available contact area but require tighter media retention and may increase pressure drop. Can Ultra-Clear be used in a retained or fixed bed? Coarser granular grades may fit retained-bed treatment configurations where the media remains physically contained while the process liquid passes through. Vessel design, screens, flow, contact time and pressure drop should be evaluated for the actual system. What package sizes are available? Current options include a 25 kg (55 lb) box, a 100 kg (220 lb) pallet containing four 25 kg boxes and larger production-scale quantities including approximately 908 kg (2,000 lb), depending on current grade and availability. Can I request a Certificate of Analysis? Yes. Lot-specific Certificates of Analysis may be requested for qualifying orders and shipped production lots when available. Is Ultra-Clear® water-soluble? No. Ultra-Clear is insoluble in water and remains a solid granular treatment media under normal use conditions. How quickly can Ultra-Clear® ship? Stocked formats typically ship within 1–2 business days, subject to grade, quantity, inventory, freight scheduling and order confirmation.
