Fought on 8 August 1918, the Battle of Amiens was “the Black Day of the German Army” and marked the beginning of the end of fighting on the Western Front. Attacking alongside the C anadians south of the Somme River, the Australians helped to break through German lines and capture over 24 kilometres of territory in a single day.
