Methane gas released from decomposing organic matter on the lake floor freezes as it rises, creating translucent white disc formations suspended in the clear black ice. Photographed at sunrise with the David Thompson mountains behind and a pastel sky transitioning from deep blue to warm pink, the result is unlike anything else in Canadian landscape photography.
