The koi swims against the current its whole life. In the old story, the one that fights upstream to the top of the waterfall becomes a dragon. This is a ring for those who defy the odds and win that same transformation. Carp and breaking water are carved in deep relief around the full circumference of the band, worked by hand in solid .925 sterling silver and oxidised so the fish and the current lift out of the shadow behind them. Cast pieces cannot hold this movement. Polished rails frame the scene above and below, the interior is finished smooth against the finger, and the band measures 8mm wide at 12 grams. Stamped and hallmarked. Never plated, never filled. It wears with weight and reads up close, pair it alongside the coiled dragon it's fighting to become, Ryū.
