They are omnivores, eating a varied diet of insects, rodents, eggs, fruits, and vegetables. Adults are powerful, long-lived reptiles that can exceed 15 years of age with proper care. Important Note Many baby Argentine Black and White Tegus hatch with bright green coloration on their heads and faces. This green coloration is completely normal and will gradually fade as the tegu grows, eventually developing the classic black-and-white adult pattern. The green color is temporary and does not remain into adulthood.
