The Pentax 645N is a medium format autofocus SLR introduced in 1997 that brought modern handling and automation to the 6×4.5 film format. Designed with ergonomics similar to a larg e professional DSLR, the camera features integrated motorized film advance, autofocus capability, automatic exposure modes, and a built-in grip for comfortable handheld shooting. It uses 120 or 220 roll film to produce large negatives with significantly greater detail and tonal range than standard 35mm film cameras. The 645N supports Pentax FA645 autofocus lenses as well as earlier manual-focus 645 optics, giving photographers access to a broad lineup of highly respected medium format glass. One of the camera’s biggest strengths is its balance between professional image quality and relatively approachable operation, making medium format photography feel faster and more intuitive than many modular studio-oriented systems. Today, the Pentax 645N remains highly regarded among film photographers for its reliable autofocus performance, excellent lens ecosystem, and ability to deliver rich medium format image quality in a practical everyday shooting body.
