Ushers 1.75L
Ushers Green Stripe 1.75L is a blended Scotch whisky bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a large-format 1.75-liter size. Rooted in one of whisky history's most significant innovations — Andrew Usher's pioneering work in blending malt and grain whiskies beginning in 1853 — Green Stripe carries the distinction of descending from the very first commercially blended Scotch whisky ever produced. Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 Proof) | Origin: Scotland | Style: Blended Scotch Whisky (NAS) | Brand Heritage: Andrew Usher & Co., est. 1853 Production & Heritage Andrew Usher is widely recognized as the father of blended Scotch whisky. In 1853, he became the first to commercially marry malt and grain whiskies into a single, consistent blend — a technique that every blended Scotch on the market today descends from. Ushers Green Stripe follows that original philosophy, combining malt and grain whiskies to achieve what the brand has long described as "the original light Scotch." The blend is designed for approachability and balance rather than cask-strength intensity, making it a straightforward expression of the blending tradition Usher himself established. Tasting Notes Aroma: Light and inviting, opening with heather and honey before giving way to subtle fruit and a wisp of smoke. A gentle spice note rounds out the nose without dominating. Taste: The entry is soft and surprisingly mouth-filling, with honeycomb and cream arriving first. Mid-palate, toffee and caramel develop alongside baked apple, creating a layered sweetness that stays well-balanced. A light wafer-like quality adds texture without heaviness. Finish: Medium in length, smooth, and rich with lingering toffee and honey. There is minimal burn, tapering gently into a clean, slightly sweet close. How to Drink Ushers Green Stripe Green Stripe drinks well neat or with a splash of water, which opens up its honeyed character. Its light, balanced profile also makes it a versatile cocktail base. Try it in a Scotch Highball, where the honey and heather notes pair naturally with quality soda water; a Rob Roy, where the blend's caramel sweetness complements sweet vermouth; or a Penicillin, where the subtle smoke in Green Stripe adds depth without overpowering the ginger and lemon components.
