Approximately 2,400 military personnel and civilians were killed during the Japanese attack on the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on Dec. 7, 1941. Nearly half that num ber died on one ship when the USS Arizona was struck by bombs and sent to the bottom.
