In the Epic of Gilgamesh (the oldest surviving epic and one of the earliest pieces of written literature), Utnapishtim recounts the story of the great flood, which includes this incense mixture that he burned to thank the gods for surviving. Cedar brings its majestic power, fostering strength and resilience. It has a masculine energy and was believed by people in Mesopotamia to help search for solutions in particularly difficult or critical situations. Myrtle was considered a sacred plant and was burned in ceremonies honoring the Sun god Shamash.
