Vigna unguiculata. Collected in Nayarit, Mexico, which has a much more humid climate than the desert Southwest. Our partner grower in Georgia said this cowpea grows exceptionally w ell there, and its thick hull helps repel insects. Extremely hardy and prolific, with small dark brick-red seeds. Excellent as green beans or shelled. This variety did best for us in Tucson when grown in a flood irrigation situation to provide humidity. This small hard cowpea requires scarification and a soak of a few hours to get good germination. If cooking from dry beans, it also requires a longer cooking period than our other cowpeas. From our Seed Bank Collection. Origin: Low elevation, about 32' above sea level; tropical climate Vines can grow to about 6', can be grown with or without support Approx. 3.5g/35 seeds per packet.
