The widest point is the left side of the top bar which is 1093mm/43in from the centerline of the hitch. The rack alone weighs 54kg/119lb, so make sure your hitch is rated for an appropriate tongue weight that includes the bikes you intend to carry. As a guide, the tongue weight is usually 10% of the towing capacity, so a vehicle with a 5000lb towing capacity will likely have a tongue weight capacity of 500lbs, allowing you to carry 7 bikes at 54lbs each.
