A Vacu-Boom cap end. It closes the end of a run and serves as a vacuum hose connection point. Every open-ended run needs a cap at each end. An uncapped end is an open air path, and on a vacuum-sealed boom that means the run will not pull down properly along its length. How a Vacu-Boom is assembled A Vacu-Boom is built from 1.52 m (5 ft) sections into whatever configuration the job needs, rather than being supplied as one fixed length. The components are: 5 ft mid section without port — extends the run 5 ft mid section with port — extends the run and provides a take-off point Centre trap — a fitting used in certain configurations Cap end — closes the run, and serves as a vacuum hose connection point Joiner clip — holds sections together The manufacturer also lists square corner fittings for closed perimeter configurations. CCW does not currently stock these; ask us if your layout needs them. Build the length to the job rather than dragging a fixed-length boom around, and carry spare clips. They are the part that goes missing. Every joint is part of a vacuum manifold. A joint that is not properly seated is an air leak, and an air leak anywhere in the run weakens the seal along the whole run — not just at the joint. Seat every clip and check the line before switching on. Where the cap end sits in a layout The cap end does two jobs at once, which is worth understanding before ordering quantities. It closes the run, and it is one of the two places the vacuum hose can be connected — the other being a 5 ft mid section with port. A straightforward downslope barrier uses two cap ends: one at each end of the run, with the vacuum taken from one of them. A layout that takes the vacuum from a ported mid section still needs both ends capped. Cap ends are also the fittings most exposed to being stood on, driven over and dropped, so they are worth carrying a spare of on a mobile rig. Vacuum and surface requirements The boom seals by airflow, not by weight, and requires a hard non-porous surface — concrete, bitumen, sealed timber or steel. The manufacturer's own system packages pair a 20 ft boom with 101 CFM (approximately 172 m³/h) and 30 to 40 ft booms with 202 CFM (approximately 343 m³/h), using a 50 mm (2 in) vacuum hose. Keep the full 2 in bore through to the machine; restriction costs seal faster than distance does. No surface roughness, crack width or fall tolerance is published by the manufacturer. On old or broken pavement, prove the seal on site rather than assuming it. Chemical compatibility The manufacturer's published material states a general tolerance to acids, caustics and petrochemicals. That statement is not accompanied by an identification of the boom polymer, a pH range, a temperature limit, a solvent or hydrocarbon limit, or any named test method, and we have not been able to obtain substantiation for it. We are repeating it here as the manufacturer's claim, attributed, and we are not extending it. What that means in practice: CCW cannot confirm compatibility with any specific cleaning chemical, degreaser, solvent, protectant or fuel, and does not issue written compatibility statements for this product. No pH, temperature, hydrocarbon or solvent limits are published for the boom material. No expected service life under chemical exposure is published. If your process involves a particular chemistry — and especially if you need a compatibility position in writing for a client, an auditor or a regulator — that question has to be answered by the manufacturer, not inferred from a distributor page.
