Origin: Northern South America. Growth Habit: Vigorous evergreen climbing vine reaching 6–10 metres with support. Perfect for trellises, pergolas, fences and arbours. Germination: Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours before sowing 5–10 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (20–28°C) and consistently moist. Germination typically takes 2–8 weeks, although some seeds may take longer.Climate: Vanilla passionfruit prefers mild conditions. It grows well in warmer North Island gardens and should be grown in a greenhouse or sheltered frost-free location in the South Island. Fruit: Produces unique banana-shaped golden-yellow fruit with soft orange pulp. The flavour is sweet, tropical and often described as a blend of passionfruit, melon and vanilla.
