Perfumers can draw on it in vanilla accords, gourmands, ambers, chocolates, soaps, candles, and warm bases to supply a specific accent, strengthen the central accord, or connect neighbouring materials. With Vanillin, the vanilla & warmth effect is most useful when it strengthens the intended accord rather than drawing attention to the raw material itself. Evaluate it in the finished base, where any tendency towards cloying, dusty, or overly familiar is easier to judge. A blotter establishes direction, but the finished base shows whether Vanillin is supporting the formula or beginning to obscure it. Vanillin comes as white to cream coloured crystals, that dissolve readily at low doses in most perfumery materials and in ethanol.
