Vanillin has been on the market since 1874. In recent years with the rise of natural perfumery, there is also now demand for a naturally derived form. Our natural vanillin, extracted from cloves, is wonderfully creamy and realistic and is an enormously valuable tool in the natural perfumer's toolbox. We also stock a very special synthetic vanillin, our Vanillin “Signature” which we consider superior in scent to this product. Vanillin “Signature” is GMO free but it is not a natural product. Arctander says this of vanillin in general: “Among the more common perfume materials, Vanillin is one of the most tenacious odors known.”; “Its intense sweetness is utilized in industrial masking odors and in high-cost luxury perfumes, and it can be used in almost any type of fragrance, from woody or herbaceous to Oriental or floral.” Perfumer Jean Claude Ellena makes the following suggestions for some fun chocolate accords using vanillin: Plain Chocolate: Vanillin + patchouliChocolate Ganache: Vanillin + a touch of civet absoluteAfter Eights: Vanillin + spearmint (or Black Mitchan Peppermint for a British twist)Cocoa Powder: Vanillin + Orris Germanica
