The magnificent art involves chiselling a single sandstone or soft stone with the help of a hammer and other traditional tools. Beautiful structures with architectural excellence and intricate carvings are created by the highly proficient artisans of Varanasi and the surrounding regions after days of dedication. Various decorative artefacts such as sculptures of deities, animals, birds, etc. are intricately etched with the help of this unique technique.The process includes chiselling and hammering of the naturally obtained stone accompanied by the constant sprinkling of water to avoid overheating.
