Description Light/Soil/Water Hardiness Opuntia monacantha f. monstruosa variegata is the variegated dwarf variant of the Prickly Pear Opuntia monacantha. This rare succulent is com monly known as 'Joseph's Coat'. This cactus is beautifully marbled with creamy white, yellow and green. This erect fleshy succulent plant can grow up to 6 feet (1.8 m) tall. Its trunk grows flat round-shaped branches or pads at the top. Both its trunks and branches have multiple tiny pointy spines. Variegated Opuntia monacantha produces showy red flowers from late spring to early autumn. All of the plants may be shipped bare root. Full sun. Direct sunlight is necessary. A very low amount of water is required. Hot and dry atmosphere is best for Variegated Opuntia monacantha so overwatering could lead to root rot. Porous and well-drained potting soil. You can propagate either by cuttings or by seed. To propagate by cuttings, remove a pad from the plant and let it callous over for a couple of days. Then place it in dry soil and do not water it until it begins to grow.
