It rarely forms visibly crystals,instead it occurs primarily as fine grained microcrystalline masses,crusts or nodules filling cavities and fractures.It is a secondary mineral, and forms near the earths surface when circulating,phosphate rich groundwater interacts with aluminium rich rocks,such as recited sandstone.
