It is inserted beneath a screened bottom board, where naturally falling varroa mites land on the surface of the board. By leaving the board in place for 24 hours, beekeepers can count the number of mites that fall and use that information to determine whether treatment is necessary. While the board does not reduce mite populations on its own, it plays a key role in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) by helping guide treatment decisions.
