Velberry™ is a soft sweet chemical with a red fruit character. It has some similarities to raspberry ketone but with interesting whisky and green facets. This can be a particularly useful material when an alternative is needed to the classic (but discolouring) vanillin and heliotropin. Velberry adds volume and body to a scent and can be used in very large doses (particularly in functional fragrances). The price is incredibly good and has virtually no regulatory barriers to widespread use. In BASF's own words: “The gourmand character combines soft, powdery notes with freshness and red fruits.
