Meanwhile, Phife Dawg's solo debut, Ventilation, reveals his true ambitions and feelings since the group disbanded. Though Phife's lyrics can become monotonous, the production from Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, and Jay Dee keeps the album interesting. "D.R.U.G.S." and "Alphabet Soup" shine with Phife's unassuming voice and Hi-Tek's minimal grooves. Despite a few aimless party cuts, Ventilation stays on course.
